James Sullivan, bass
James is both a second-year M.M. student in double bass performance and a second-year M.A./Ph.D. student in music theory at the Eastman School of Music. He holds a B.M. with honors in double bass performance and a B.S. with honors in mathematics from Indiana University. Primarily interested in the performance of contemporary music, he has commissioned and performed an entire recital of solo and chamber music for double bass written by student composers at IU and has premiered numerous other student compositions. At Eastman he has performed with Musica Nova, the contemporary music ensemble, and Ossia, the student-run new music organization, and at Indiana he has performed with the IU New Music Ensemble. James has studied bass with James VanDemark, Bruce Bransby, and Dan Thompson.
